Double Bunk Bed

Double Bunk Bed
The Bed frames were probably the easiest part of the construction process, all though it looks complicated it is repetitive work. Considering the weight it should carry I bulked up slightly as compared to the standard type wooden beds found in the local bed shop.

My wife and I have looked at many other options and the one thing that struck us with most beds are the top bunk is to low for an adult. We are both pretty tall and clammering under a bed to try and put a child into bed should not be hindered or have a probability of your head being bumped.

The Frame

The frame work itself was constructed by 76 x 50 mm pine. I used Counter sunk chip board screws for the assembly and the detail U cannot see, I added 12 mm Dowels to keep the Bed frame on the Upright frame in place. Just to give it some additional strength.

My wife being pretty insistent on the finish decided to give me a hand and show me how the painting should be done, Her choice of colour is a Pearl White Stain/ Wax sealer.
